An evening with David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell
|
April 4, 8pm Paramount Theatre 713 Congress Avenue Austin, Texas
An amusing and entertaining evening is in store as David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell bring their wickedly funny take on life to the Paramount Theatre. Sedaris first rose to national prominence when NPR's Morning Edition aired his "SantaLand Diaries," recounting his strange-but-true experiences as a Macy's Department Store elf. He is the author of two successful collections of humorous essays, Barrel Fever and Naked. In addition to his regular commentaries for NPR's Morning Edition (where he's identified as "an apartment cleaner in New York City") Sedaris is a regular contributor to The New Yorker. He and his sister, Amy, have written several plays together, including the Obie-award winning One Woman Shoe. Author and social observer Sarah Vowell is best known for her monologues and documentaries for public radio's "This American Life." She has been a staple of TAL's popular live shows around the country, for which The New York Times has commended her "funny querulous voice and shrewd comic delivery." Thanks to her first book, Radio On A Listener's Diary (St. Martin's Press), Newsweek made her its "Rookie of the Year" for nonfiction in 1997, calling her "a cranky stylist with talent to burn." Reviewing her second book, the essay collection Take the Cannoli Stories from the New World (Simon & Schuster), People Magazine said, "Wise, witty and refreshingly warm-hearted, Vowell's essays on American history, pop culture and her own family reveal the bonds holding together a great, if occasionally weird, nation." Spend an evening with two popular National Public Radio personalities for a warm and uproarious evening! |
