Press Release

MAD COW THEATRE named "Arts Innovator of the Year" by United Arts of Central Florida

ORLANDO, FL (October 22, 2000) Mad Cow Theatre has just been named Arts Innovator of the Year by United Arts of Central Florida for their work on The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov. This annual award is given to an arts organization who has added to the greater value of the Central Florida arts and cultural community.

Central Florida's Mad Cow Theatre opens The Cherry Orchard on October 26th. The Cherry Orchard is the story of an aristocratic family who squanders its wealth and axes are poised to cut down its precious cherry orchard. Funny and tragic, The Cherry Orchard brilliantly portrays relationships of family, of generations and the social upheaval in turn-of-the-century Russia.

The play has been in development for over a year by Mad Cow's Chekhov Project - a group of theatre professionals including actors, directors, designers, scholars, historians and audience members. The Cherry Orchard is directed by Alan Bruun. The associate director is Nancy Izzo, set design by William Elliott, lighting by Bill Ferrara, sound by Milton Mersinger with costume design by Jenna McRae and Alison Parker.
